US President Donald Trump has said former President Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize was “unfair”, while stressing that he helped end many conflicts in a matter of months.

According to Zvezda news agency, US President Donald Trump on October 9 expressed his dissatisfaction with the Nobel Peace Prize of his predecessor Barack Obama during a joint press conference with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
“Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize is unfair, he did not really do anything. That prize was awarded to Obama just a few months after he was elected,” Trump said.
Trump affirmed that he absolutely deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for helping resolve many conflicts around the world during his second presidential term. “I don’t know what they will do, but I am sure of one thing: No one in history has ever been able to end eight conflicts in just nine months,” Trump said.
On the same day, Obama posted a message on social media congratulating the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas Islamic Movement in the Gaza Strip, but did not mention Trump. Donald Trump Jr, the eldest son of the current US President, later quoted Mr. Obama’s post, with the note: “Let me finish the rest for Mr. Obama: Thank you, President Trump.”
According to observers, although Mr. Trump has received nominations from many heads of state and politicians around the world, the prospect of the US leader winning the award is still unclear.
In 2009, Mr. Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to promote nuclear disarmament and support multilateral diplomacy. However, this was an award that caused many mixed reactions and Mr. Obama himself expressed surprise when receiving the award. Before Mr. Obama, there were 3 other US Presidents who received this award: Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter.
