Car Goes Airborne on Long Island Highway After Driver Suffers Seizure

Long Island, New York — A shocking and unusual incident unfolded on September 3 when a car went airborne and cleared several lanes of a busy highway, leaving witnesses stunned.

Video footage captured the dramatic moment: a 70-year-old man behind the wheel of a sedan suddenly veered off course, speeding across a grassy embankment before hitting a small hill. The incline effectively acted as a ramp, sending the vehicle soaring into the air and across multiple lanes of traffic.

According to local reports, the driver had suffered a seizure just moments before losing control of his car. Despite the harrowing sequence of events, officials confirmed that the man miraculously walked away without injuries. Even more remarkably, no other vehicles were struck or damaged during the incident — an outcome authorities described as “extremely fortunate,” given the potential for a multi-car collision.

Witnesses who saw the airborne car described the scene as something out of a Hollywood action film. “It was unbelievable. One second the car was on the ground, and the next it was flying across the highway,” one motorist told local media.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and assessed the driver, who did not require hospitalization. Authorities are continuing to review the incident and have not issued any citations at this time, as the medical episode appears to have been the root cause.

Transportation officials stressed that while this incident ended without tragedy, it highlights the risks associated with medical emergencies behind the wheel. “Drivers, especially older adults, should have regular health check-ups and consult with their doctors to ensure they are fit to drive,” a spokesperson said.

The video of the airborne car has since gone viral online, garnering widespread attention and sparking conversations about road safety, health screenings for elderly drivers, and the sheer unpredictability of driving incidents.
