Comedian called a ‘threat to humanity’ by Trump

President Donald Trump calls Rosie O’Donnell a threat to humanity and says he is considering stripping her citizenship. However, the comedian is unafraid and speaks out in defiance.

The war of words on social media

On July 12, President Donald Trump attracted attention when he shared a message aimed at Rosie O’Donnell on Truth Social.

“Because Rosie O’Donnell is not a good person for our great country, I am seriously considering stripping her citizenship. She is a threat to humanity. She should stay in the great country of Ireland, if they want her. God bless America,” Trump declared.

A few hours later, O’Donnell responded with a series of posts on Instagram, with somewhat out-of-control language.

The comedian criticized the White House boss as a “criminal fraud, sexual abuser and liar”, “a dangerous soulless old man”. According to O’Donnell, Mr. Trump is harming the country and that is why she had to move to Ireland.

“I completely oppose everything he stands for. So do millions of others. He will deport anyone who opposes his evil tendencies. He is a terrible joke who cannot speak a coherent sentence,” O’Donnell emphasized.

The A League of Their Own star also shared a photo of Mr. Trump and “billionaire pedophile” Jeffrey Epstein (arrested in 2019 for sex trafficking and conspiracy to traffic minors, then committed suicide in prison).

“Hey Donald, are you freaking out again? 18 years later, I’m still living rent-free in your crumbling brain. You call me a threat to humanity, but I’m everything you fear: a loud, lesbian, truth-telling mother and American citizen who left the country before you burned it down,” O’Donnell challenged.

It’s unclear what legal basis Trump used to strip O’Donnell of her US citizenship. Americans cannot lose their citizenship even if they become naturalized in another country. This is a right protected by the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution and cannot be revoked by the president.

Who is Rosie O’Donnell?

Rosie O’Donnell, full name Roseann O’Donnell, was born on March 21, 1962, in Commack, Long Island, New York, USA. She works in the entertainment industry as a comedian, actress, and television host.

She started acting at the age of 16, winning the Star Search contest in 1984. Later, she moved into film with roles in A League of Their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, Beautiful Girls…

She became more famous as an MC. From 1996 to 2002, her name was associated with the program The Rosie O’Donnell Show, winning many Daytime Emmy awards. She was nicknamed “Queen of Nice” by New York Newsweek.

She also collaborated with the program The View (2006-2007, 2014-2015), remembered for her frank and straightforward speaking style, especially during the time of public conflict with Mr. Donald Trump.

Rosie has been openly gay since 2002. She has been active in protecting the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, receiving the title of Person of the Year 2002 from The Advocate.

In 2003, she and her partner founded the travel company R Family Vacations, specializing in organizing vacations for LGBTQ+ families, which is still growing sustainably today.

In addition, the female MC also founded the charity Rosie’s Theater Kids, which aims to create artistic opportunities for children from disadvantaged families.

Currently, Rosie actively performs comedy in Dublin (the capital of Ireland) and participates in community activities.

A feud spanning nearly two decades

The feud between O’Donnell and Trump began nearly two decades ago, when the actress mocked the billionaire born in 1946 on The View in 2006.

At the time, O’Donnell criticized Trump for acting like a “moral authority” in connection with the controversy surrounding the winner of the Miss USA pageant that same year.

Trump immediately fired back, describing the comedian as “disgusting inside and out.”

“Look at her, she’s a mess. She talks like a truck driver,” Trump told The Insider.

In August 2015, during the Republican primary debate, former Fox host Megyn Kelly asked Trump about his use of vulgar terms to describe women. The then-presidential candidate replied: “Only with Rosie O’Donnell.”

At the beginning of the year, O’Donnell joined the wave of people leaving the US to protest the results of the 2024 election, in which Mr. Trump was re-elected president. She and her 12-year-old son moved to the Dublin suburb of Howth, Ireland, to settle down, hoping for a more peaceful and gentle living environment and a secure future for their son.

As for the reason for choosing Ireland, O’Donnell is originally from this European country. In March, she said that she was in the process of applying for citizenship and would only return to the US when the country guaranteed “equal citizenship for all.”

A month later, O’Donnell accused Trump of “ignoring every law that the founders upheld and the values that this country stands for – a beacon of light and freedom for the rest of the world” in an interview with CNN.

“It’s been as bad as they warned it would be, and a little bit worse. It’s heartbreaking and incredibly sad to see,” the actress said of Trump’s second term in the White House.

In a June interview with NewsNation host Chris Cuomo, O’Donnell expressed confidence that she would be a better mother in Ireland than in the United States under Trump.

“Coming to Ireland was absolutely a way for me to take care of myself and my gender non-conforming, autistic child who needs support services, counseling, and all the things he’s threatening to cut in this horrifying plan called ‘the big beautiful bill,’” she said.

O’Donnell added that she struggled to get through Trump’s first term, to the point of depression, binge eating, and alcohol abuse.
