On June 9, 2025, at approximately 12:32 a.m., deputies from the Century Sheriff’s
Station responded to a residential burglary in progress call on the 3300 block of Los
Flores Boulevard in Lynwood. Upon arrival, deputies learned a male, later identified as
45-year-old Federico Rodriguez, had broken into the residence and was still inside with
the victim.
Deputies approached the residence and saw Rodriguez through a window holding what
appeared to be a pair of scissors. Deputies developed a tactical plan to rescue the
victim, which included breaking a bedroom window to access the residence. As a
deputy broke the window, they heard screaming and saw Rodriguez stabbing the victim.
Deputies forced entry into the residence through a door and encountered Rodriguez in
the hallway on his knees, armed with a knife and stabbing the victim, who was lying on
the floor. As Rodriguez was stabbing the victim, a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Rodriguez was struck by gunfire and his attack on the victim stopped, allowing deputies
to immediately rescue the victim. Deputies provided medical aid to Rodriguez until the
arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel. Rodriguez was transported
to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

No deputies or other persons were injured during the incident.
A knife was recovered at the scene.
LASD Homicide investigators responded to the scene to conduct interviews,
follow up, and process the scene. Representatives from the Office of the
Inspector General (OIG), Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB), and the Los Angeles
County District Attorney’s Office – Justice System Integrity Division (JSID) also
