In a deeply unsettling incident that has left the community in shock, a daycare worker in Bainbridge, Georgia, has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a toddler on his first day at the facility. Yvette Thurston, 54, faces charges of first-degree aggravated battery and three counts of first-degree child abuse following the disturbing event at Little Blessings Child Care.
The child’s father, Cory Weeks, shared harrowing images of his son, Clay, showing severe bruising and swelling around his eye. He described the incident as “every parent’s worst nightmare,” emphasizing the shock of such an event occurring on his child’s first day at daycare.

Surveillance footage from the daycare reportedly captured the assault, leading to Thurston’s arrest. Despite the gravity of the charges, she was granted a $44,000 bond and has since been released from jail.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. The daycare center, affiliated with the Bainbridge Church of God, has been temporarily closed as the investigation continues.

This case has ignited a broader conversation about child safety and accountability in daycare centers. Parents and community members are calling for stricter regulations and oversight to ensure the safety of children in care.
